COURSE SYLLABUS

Hours Required: 600 Full Time Schedule / 25 hours per week / approximately 24 weeks
• 300 hours in Online Theory
• 300 hours in On Campus Practical

Program Description:

The Professional Esthetics (Distance Blended) Program meets the requirements of the Virginia Board for
Barbers and Cosmetology. This 600-clock hour distance blended full time training program combines
theory and 220 practical applications to prepare students to confidently practice in a professional role in
the field of esthetics. The Distance Blended Program will allow students to obtain the necessary theoretical
knowledge in a format convenient for them for the subsequent formation and development of practical
knowledge and skills on campus. A platform by Milady CIMA was chosen as an online platform for
obtaining theoretical knowledge. On campus, students will practice theoretical knowledge.

Curriculum and Units of Instruction:

Theory and Methodology
Students will demonstrate knowledge and skills objectives in the following areas:
1. Orientation and business topics School policies: management; sales, inventory, and retailing; taxes
and payroll; insurance; client records and confidentiality; professional ethics and practices.
2. Laws and regulations.
3. General sciences: bacteriology; microorganisms; infection control, disinfection, sterilization;
occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements; material Safety Data Sheet
(MSDS); general procedures and safety measures; cosmetic chemistry; products and ingredients; nutrition.
4. Applied sciences: anatomy and physiology; skin structure and function; skin types; skin conditions;
diseases and disorders of the skin.
5. Skin care: health screening; skin analysis and consultation; effleurage and related movements and
manipulations of the face and body; cleansings procedures; masks; extraction techniques; machines,
equipment, and electricity; manual facials and treatments; machine, electrical facials, and treatments;
general procedures and safety measures.
6. Makeup: setup, supplies, and implements; color theory; consultation; general and special occasion
application; camouflage; application of false lashes and lash extensions; lash and tinting; lash perming;
lightning of the hair on body except scalp; general procedures and safety measures.

7. Body and other treatments: body treatments; body wraps; body masks; body scrubs; aromatherapy;
general procedures and safety measures.
8. Hair removal: types of hair removal; wax types; tweezing; chemical hair removal; mechanical hair
removal; general procedures and safety measures.
